
Braised Oxtail Recipe
Ingredients
- 3 lbs (1.3 kg) oxtail, cut into pieces
- Salt & black pepper, to taste
- 2 tbsp vegetable oil
- 1 large onion, chopped
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 carrots, chopped
- 2 celery stalks, chopped
- 2 tbsp tomato paste
- 2 cups beef broth
- 1 cup red wine (optional)
- 2 bay leaves
- 1 tsp dried thyme
- 1 tsp paprika
- Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)
Instructions
- Season oxtail generously with salt and pepper.
- Heat oil in a heavy pot or Dutch oven over medium-high heat. Brown oxtail on all sides. Remove and set aside.
- In the same pot, sauté onion, garlic, carrots, and celery until softened.
- Stir in tomato paste and cook 1–2 minutes.
- Add beef broth, red wine (if using), bay leaves, thyme, and paprika.
- Return oxtail to the pot, cover, and simmer on low heat for 2½–3 hours until meat is tender and falling off the bone.
- Skim excess fat, garnish with parsley, and serve hot.
🍽️ Serve with: mashed potatoes, rice, or crusty bread.
