Braised Oxtail Recipe

Ingredients

  • 3 lbs (1.3 kg) oxtail, cut into pieces
  • Salt & black pepper, to taste
  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 1 large onion, chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 carrots, chopped
  • 2 celery stalks, chopped
  • 2 tbsp tomato paste
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 1 cup red wine (optional)
  • 2 bay leaves
  • 1 tsp dried thyme
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Season oxtail generously with salt and pepper.
  2. Heat oil in a heavy pot or Dutch oven over medium-high heat. Brown oxtail on all sides. Remove and set aside.
  3. In the same pot, sauté onion, garlic, carrots, and celery until softened.
  4. Stir in tomato paste and cook 1–2 minutes.
  5. Add beef broth, red wine (if using), bay leaves, thyme, and paprika.
  6. Return oxtail to the pot, cover, and simmer on low heat for 2½–3 hours until meat is tender and falling off the bone.
  7. Skim excess fat, garnish with parsley, and serve hot.

🍽️ Serve with: mashed potatoes, rice, or crusty bread.
